A head does interest me though, hadn't given that much thought being so dead set on a combo, until now & I've read a lot of people making the argument (and I totally get it) that the AC10 & 15 aren't the same amp. My 'pack and go' days are behind me mostly, just jammin' around the house or at neighbors.

And I'm worried about the 15's tone at low vol levels. Ain't nothin' weird at all about support local - awesome.Įven though I want that AC15 tone, I'll probably lean to the AC10 for now, only becasue I already have my share of heavy amps. Not in my budget at this time, but it is in my crosshairs now. That Winfield Dust Devil earned itself a shortcut on my home scree!. The ac10 is a bit quieter and more controllable I found when I tried it, and sounds excellent.Thank you, great demo's. I might try replacing the very efficient vintage 10 speaker with a 10 inch greenback as that would knock a good few dbs off! I don't know if you can get a driven vox sound that's right at whisper volume. When lockdown is over I'll be selling it in favour of something with less power or more controllable gain. Mine has a 10 inch celestion (it's not a vox amp but it is an ac15 circuit) and it's really loud. I do wish the AC10 had an fx loop, it's the one thing that holds me back, I use tremolo a lot and I find that sounds better when it's integrated into the amp, even if only in the loop. Does anyone use an AC15c1 as a home amp, is it a success? I have briefly flirted with the idea, especially as it has built in trem and verb but I'm a home player, very unlikely to gig or even jam outside the house, so all that power is wasted. I should probably get another AC10 but I do like big boy amps despite not having much of a chance to use them properly Ive had an ac10 and a couple of variants of the ac4 and the 10 won hands down for sparkle, chime and just general Voxyness. Thanks Hatti, very kind of you but with the petrol cost to get from the south coast to Harrogate and back I could probably buy one - lovely offer and lovely part of the world too. Keep meaning to advertise it but not got round to it yet. You're welcome to borrow one post lockdown if you fancy it and can get to sunny Harrogate. It needs to be at a certain level to be at its best but the sound is just perfection to my ears. Hello Yes, you can knock it down to 7.5w at which it is only just deafening. How is the hand wired one at home volume Hatti ? Its got the half power switch hasnt it ? I nearly pulled the trigger on one last week but fancy trying one first tbh If you're after the 10, I'd venture that you might as well go for the 15 and get the 12 inch speaker? I'm not sure if it could be modified - there's probably room to put the PCB further up, but it's possible that there is some unexpected issue with that - eg a stability problem - which could be why they've done it like that.Īt least if we know a Creamback will fit, then a Greenback will too if you prefer that - in fact I'm surprised that isn't the choice in the Limited Edition. I'm actually surprised they can even fit a Creamback in there, with the plastic cover on the magnet it must be just about touching the PCB. If they'd fitted them horizontally further up like the preamp valves, you could get one in. It really is a shame they've designed it like that - it's not the cabinet depth that's the problem, it's the awkward layout with the power valves mounted vertically right behind the speaker. Both are really good amps and I'm confident you'll enjoy yourself.

I subsequently upgraded to an AC15 for a decent amount more headroom with a louder band. I really liked my AC10 overall and it was excellent for playing with the quieter band (mostly acoustic, no "rock" drum kit) I was in at the time. One thing that you may already know but just in case not: bear in mind that the AC10's shallow cabinet depth will preclude most replacement speakers if you are considering this option - especially alnicos. I thought the standard speaker was good too - tried swapping it for something out of an older Vox Cambridge amp and it made no difference. The originals weren't awful, but sticking some basic JJs in mine made it an awful lot warmer and richer in breakup. Seconded on getting new valves for a standard AC10. I then stuck a creamback in and it made a small difference, a little warmer, but as ICBM says not a whole lot. I stuck decent valves in my Ac10c1 and it made a big difference.
